Kasurian is a Muslim magazine for the 21st century.

As a general-purpose magazine, Kasurian aims to contribute to the emergence of a distinct worldview which carries forward the essential truths and traditions of Islam, equipped to negotiate a new understanding with the 21st century.

Our tagline is 'Curiosity and Conviction at the Scale of Civilisation.'

We look at the world with curiosity and conviction at the scale of civilisation: our conviction is that in an uncertain world, certain truths remain unchanged; our curiosity is in exploring how these truths continue to persist into our present and future.

Our values can and should inform discussion on affairs contemporary and historical, global and local, with curiosity and conviction. But they can only do so once articulated in a familiar manner. Every generation bears the burden of rephrasing age-old truths in the novel concepts, issues, and language of its time.

Our objective is to restate these truths in the language of our time.

Kasurian publishes issues on a seasonal basis, during which you can expect an essay in your inbox every Sunday.

We welcome readers and writers from all backgrounds to join us.

What We Do

Digital

Kasurian publishes one essay every Sunday during a seasonal run. Our magazine is general-purpose and we cover a variety of topics, ranging from history, culture, technology, contemporary affairs, and beyond.

Print

We aim to start a physical print copy of our quarterly issues later this year. Paper will outlast digital, and we intend for our magazine to be a long-lasting cultural artefact that informs the mind and pleases the eye.

The Future

Over time, we plan to sustainably increase our publishing cadence in response to demand, explore alternative social media platforms, and host in-person events for our community.

How You Can Contribute

If you wish to write for Kasurian, consult our Writer’s Guide for our pitch submission requirements. If you don't have a particular topic in mind, you can also visit our Request for Essays page, which is continually updated with a list of ideas and themes we would love to commission.

You can also make a paid subscription of $10 a month or $110 a year, and directly support Kasurian’s mission: to produce consistent, high-quality essays on culture and civilisation.

As a paid subscriber, you will also be shortlisted for membership of the Kasurian network (a paid subscription to Kasurian does not guarantee membership in the Kasurian network). Membership includes access to the following:

  1. Kasurian Chat: An exclusive private space for regular, thoughtful discussion around the themes we explore. We are building a unique network for those serious about the questions of culture and civilisation. We invite all our readers to join.

  2. Kasurian Salons: Intimate, in-person gatherings we are planning in cities around the world. Logistics are in motion, but as a paid subscriber, you will receive early access and priority invitations.

  3. Kasurian Annual Review: A beautiful, book-sized print edition collecting our essays, artwork, and more.

But more than a paid subscription, the most important thing you can do is to share Kasurian. Start conversations about our essays with friends, with family, and the internet mutuals you argue with in good faith.
